Philosophy & Values

Racial inequity in education is due to a number of factors, primarily 1) lack of resources, and 2) lack of self-esteem in minority students. Due to these factors, many smart kids fall behind early and never recover. By intervening now, EdYouNet can give kids the extra help they need to succeed. Further, EdYouNet’s diverse cast of characters can be transformational. By seeing smart, “cool” characters of various backgrounds and races, students will grow up loving to learn and loving themselves.

This diversity component is particularly unique and impactful because of how central it is to our student learning experience. Racial and ethnic diversity is not an afterthought in our lessons; it is front and center, just like it is in real life. We are not one of those organizations that claim, “We don’t see color”. Instead, we embrace color and all other forms of diversity as being sources of pride and community. We are committed to passing those same ideas on to young children. If we do not do it, no one will. And if we don’t get to these kids early, we may never reach them at all.

EdYouNet lessons incorporate diverse student characters to which students can relate.  Instead of students being in a classroom, the students take everyday situations and learn to solve problems collaboratively and learn from each other.  Each student has the opportunity to contribute in the learning experience.  Students learn respect for others’ perspectives and together experience appreciation for the learning experience. This is an unconventional method of learning for lower levels.

The recent pandemic has made the problem worse and learning gaps are wider.  Students who can master the basics are more likely to advance through the grades, graduate and become productive members of society.  EdYouNet engages students by providing incentives.  Students develop self-confidence, acquired knowledge, and model good behavior leading to positive goals.
